There's no such thing as a "small emergency."

Your financial donation will help now!

Financial support
All American Red Cross disaster assistance is free, made possible by voluntary gifts of time and money from the American people. The American Red Cross is not a government agency, and does not receive government funding.

A Time to Give
Today, America is challenged with enormous need. Our cities, towns and neighborhoods are faced with overwhelming problems. And our homes, hospitals, schools and workplaces are filled with people who count on the American Red Cross to be there for them.

It may be a family down the street needing emergency shelter in the middle of the night after a house fire...a child whose life is saved because someone received infant/child American Red Cross CPR, first aid, or water safety training...a young girl who received donated bone tissue for facial reconstructive surgery...a new parent in our Armed Forces notified of his child's birth...residents of an apartment building evacuated because of a fire or an entire community that is struck with the catastrophe of a flood, severe weather, or tornadoes.

If there was ever a time to embrace an organization that does so much good work in the community, this is the time. And the American Red Cross--dedicated to helping others, whenever and wherever needed--is THAT organization.

It doesn't need to make headlines to be someone's disaster.

Heart - wrenching stories of suffering and need abound in America today. We are all deeply moved by the dire circumstances and tragedies of others. But it's only those moved to help - in ways both large and small - who can ease the burden of others.

The generous outpouring of assistance through the American Red Cross after major floods, earthquakes, hurricanes and firestorms serves as testimony to America's desire to help. Beyond these well - publicized disasters, however, the American Red Cross is active in our community - every day.  For those who suffer in an emergency, there's no such thing as a "small emergency."

When a local factory worker was found unconscious and not breathing by two fellow workers, a life hung in the balance.  Thanks to their quick action and their skill in performing CPR, that worker survived.  Those two co-workers had completed American Red Cross First Aid Training prior to the incident.

Frequently people in Sandusky County, people you may know, are helped--often without notice--by the dedicated volunteers and staff of your local American Red Cross chapter.  Most of what these people do never makes the 6 o'clock news.  They accomplish the remarkable without fanfare.  And it's your compassion and support that make their critical, often quiet deeds of humanity possible.

Your donation makes a difference!

The American Red Cross is not a government agency.  The people who rely on the American Red Cross ultimately rely upon you to support the critical programs and services of the organization.  Of every dollar spent by the American Red Cross, 92 cents is spent on direct services to the American people--one of the very highest ratios of donated dollars channeled directly to services of all the major non-profits in the county.  And it's your support that makes the difference.

How your dollars are put to work
When a family in our community gets burned out of their home,

  • An $80 donation buys new clothing for a child who has lost everything.
  • A $50 donation will buy one week's worth of food for an adult.
  • A $25 donation can provide an infant with formula or baby food for a week.
  • A $25 donation can provide shoes for a child caught in a disaster.
  • A $115 donation will buy groceries for a week for a family of four that has lost their home.

To help protect the lives of people in our community-

  • With $500 we can acquire a set of new CPR training mannequins.
  • A $170 donation can purchase a training video tape.
  • $65 in materials and 36 volunteer hours are necessary to train an Instructor for First Aid and CPR.
  • On average, $25 is required to provide emergency communications to connect a member of our armed forces with his/her family during a crisis such as the death of a parent; or to notify a navy corpsman stationed in the Antarctic that he is the father of a new baby boy.
