Blood Services Volunteer Training
Regulated functions are tasks that the Federal Food and Drug Administration has determined affect the safety, quality, purity, or potency of blood products. Regulated functions performed at a mobile collection site include Registration, Pak table, and Physical Findings (weight, temperature, blood pressure, pulse, and hemoglobin determination). These critical tasks assure that our nation's blood supply is the safest in the world!

Federal regulations require that American Red Cross Blood Service volunteers performing a regulated function pass both the "Volunteer Fundamentals" class and individual task training for the regulated function they perform. Training sessions are approximately four hours.

Volunteers performing non-regulated functions are NOT required to attend a training session. Non-regulated functions are: pre-check computer, loaders, greeters, donor room escorts and post-donation canteen. Non-regulated functions are important functions that have been incorporated into the donation process to assure that donors are safe and have a pleasant donor experience.
